Political Awareness & Involvement
Social Action & Civic Engagement
The Rock Hill Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is committed to educating, empowering, and engaging our community in matters of politics, social justice, and civic responsibility. We believe it is vital that African Americans understand the power and impact of their voices—locally, regionally, and nationally. Persistently low voter turnout underscores the ongoing need to expand opportunities for all citizens to participate fully in the democratic process.
Since our Sorority’s historic participation in the 1913 Women’s Suffrage March, Social Action has been a cornerstone of our mission. Guided by the National Social Action Commission, Delta Sigma Theta continues to champion:
Voter registration and education
Combating voter suppression
Restoration of voting rights for returning citizens
Advocacy for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)
Gender equality
Opposition to racial profiling
In York County, the Rock Hill Alumnae Chapter advances these efforts through voter registration drives, candidate forums, and voter education workshops. Our members also participate in Delta Days at the State and Nation’s Capitals—annual legislative conferences that promote engagement in public policy.
Social Action is our primary vehicle for addressing critical public issues and mobilizing members to effect meaningful change. While Delta Sigma Theta remains non-partisan, we value an informed and active electorate. Through advocacy, education, and community engagement, we proudly uphold our Sorority’s legacy of leadership, advocacy, and social responsibility.
