Political Awareness and Involvement

Rock Hill Alumnae Chapter is committed to educating, informing and supporting our community on matters of politics and social action.  It is imperative that African Americans realize, understand and know that our voices are powerful and matter in local, region and federal goverment.  Today, low voter turnout statistics highlight the need to continue to identify ways to include opportunities for all citizens to exercise their voting power.

Social Action was the first public and significant act of our Sorority. Feeling compelled to join a national movement and march in the historic Women’s Suffrage March of 1913, our sorority has remained actively involved in political activism and tirelessly working to inform communities about this legislative process. The mission of social action in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is to promote leadership, advocacy, education, engagement, and empowerment to effect social change and public policy in our communities, counties, state, and nation.

Social Action is the vehicle through which the Sorority establishes a position on an emerging or perennial public issue, determines the action to be taken, and directs the actions of members, chapters, and representative bodies. The mission of social action in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is to promote leadership, advocacy, and empowerment to effect social change and public policy.  Rock Hill Alumnae strives to ensure that all in the communities we serve are equal participants in the political process.  Delta is non-partisan in nature and purpose, but  understands the importance of the need for an informed electorate.  Programs such as voter registration, voter education, voter suppression workshops and seminars which highlight elected public officials assessment and accountability are ongoing  in the communities we serve.   In addition, our members are represented at events at the the state and nation capitals.
